Confessions of Superheroes

Just watched this documentary 'Confessions of Superhero'.
The movie is about a few people who makes a living by dressing up in superhero costumes. They will strut up and down sidewalks of Hollywood Boulevard and hoping the tourists will ask them to pose for picture and tip them. They are not allowed to solicit tips or hassle any tourists or the cops will come and cuff them off. They can make at least 300 dollars a day or up to 549 dollars. Wow... i also want to work there!

The movie centers around 4 'superheroes' - Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and The Hulk. Some might take these 4 as delusional and without proper career but hey...aren't they making good money than many of us? But it's great to watch as they are just as normal like us and just trying to make a living with what they do best. The show talks about their triumphant and hardship.

Bar 62002

Well, finally i am done with receiving promotions thru SMS. It's totally annoying. I know some ppl collected these datas and sell to some clients. They used to send thru this number, 32xxx but i guess after much complaints, they changed to 62002. What i did was called up Maxis to bar this number and i hope i won't receive anymore of this in the future except if it is something concerning my own promotions...-_- :)

so, if you wish to stop receiving SMS promotions thru these companies, you can call up Maxis. They will verify your account and bar that number. So i am free frm all these spams frm Velvet, Zouk, Sanctuary, China White Dance club, Aloha, etc etc..

SWEETBACK

SWEETBACK

I'm in the mood to share some of my favourites this week.
Here is another favourite of mine "SWEETBACK". This gem is hard to find and if you can get your hands on this album, you are consider lucky. I got the original from a second-hand store many yrs back. If i am not mistaken, after a few yrs frm their debut album, they came out with another called Stage 2. It's hard to find either but you can always get it in Amazon.com.

I like to listen to this after rave party last time. It helps to really chill down. I still remember by the last song...i could see the morning light and my whole body was aching and ready to sleep. Ah..one of the song is damn mellow, it could just drag your emotion down. It's called 'Walk of Ju'. And i got it here for you to listen :)
Walk of Ju

Who are they?
Sweetback is three-quarters of the Sade band, without that lady: Andrew Hale (piano, keyboards, programming), Stuart Matthewman (guitars, saxophones, programming), and Paul Spencer Denman (bass). Full Bio > Read

To view one of their song featuring Amel Larrieux "You Will Rise" click on the image

If anyone of you have any recommendations on songs that are similar to Sade, Sweetback, Maxwell, do let me know. I would luv to collect them.

He will be making a comeback album ' Black Summer's Night' and rumoured to be released next month. Listen to the new track on his myspace : http://www.myspace.com/maxwell

CLOVERFIELD - my experience

I just came back from the movie, "CLOVERFIELD". Surprisingly, we (malaysians) got to watch it first before the official opening in the States.

DON'T WORRY, i am not going to give any SPOILERS here.

For me, i have kept my expectations low when watching this movie and of course braving for any headaches which may suffice during the 1 and half hour show. If you are going to watch this movie, my advice is for you to get good sits at least 10 rows away from the screen. As you all would have known, the movie is about a tape that was retrieved at the 'Central Park' after 'the' incident and it's revealed to you what happened that day.

Since it is produced by JJ Abrams, who also produced LOST - expect to leave the cinema with your own conclusions or with more questions. Some people might give this a thumb-down but i say, this is so much better than I AM THE LEGEND. I am more intrigued at how this movie was planned and filmed. The whole story is being told as if it is really real and happened.

Monsters.
Yes, everyone is guessing what kind of monster and would it be shown in the movie. The answer is yes. You will be able to see the monster.

How was the movie?
My reaction is......wow.....this is so cool. So real. And this is what i call it, 'thinking out of the box'.

Answers?
Even after watching this movie, i dont have anything to tell you coz there is no answer BUT it is still worthwhile to watch it. It has a lot of suspense and it keeps you on the edge of your seats after the first 10mins. I may watch it again...just for the fun of it. Perhaps we can find more answers after it is shown in the States.

BEHIND THE SCENE OF NEW TERMINATOR

Alright. I have watched the first 2 episodes of Terminator : Sarah Connor Chronicles. The first episode was not too bad. Quite a lot of action. Need a little time to get use to the fact that protecting the Connors now is a girl robot. I hope the storyline won't be boring in the future episodes. Like the Bionic Woman, it started out fine. After a few episodes, it wasn't interesting anymore.

Here is Behind the scene of the casts doing their photoshoot for their promotional materials:

enjoy!

MACBOOK AIR IS OUT!

Just got a chance to view the Macbook Air. It does look gorgeous. Luv to have one though but of coz after watching it, there are a few setbacks. It doesn't come with a cd drive. Aww....so you gotta fork out an amount to buy the external disk and battery is another thing i worry about. The other feature that i always joke with my friend is how one day you can do the 'pinching' and 'zooming' on the screen like the iPhone or iPod Touch. You can now do this on the trackpad! Amazing! Overall, the design itself is a killer. I heard it's around RM7k here.

CRANK THAT UP!!!!!

If you do not know who is Soulja Boy and what's the fuss all about, you better know it right now.
The song that is sweeping the US nation by storm is the highest selling digital song of all-time in history - CRANK THAT by Soulja Boy.

3 million ringtones sold and more than 28 million ppl watched their video on Youtube...and he is only 17 yrs old! The song is infectious and the dance he created is a craze in the States. I didn't hear any of the clubs in PJ playin this song. Did you? Perhaps maybe in KL.

UNBELIEVABLE ORIGAMI

When my friend told me about this young chap making Origami with unbelievable results, i was quite uninterested actually. After i watched it, i think this guy is insane. His name is Kamiya Satoshi and he luvs doing Origami. In this video below, you can see him doing a giant Phoenix - using only 1 big sheet of paper. AND he could remember all the more-than-1300 steps?? This guy is pure genius. I wonder what goes on in his mind when he looked at the paper.

WOW??? Not yet....watch below as well:

Cloverfield

Cloverfield - the movie that let everyone guessing what monster is that; is going to open at our cinemas soon. Directed by the person who also brought you LOST, hopefully this movie doesn't fell short of expectations since they have hyped up the interests of so many ppl. Aww...hopefully...it's better than The Legend. Ya..i don't find it so nice. You like it? *thumbs down.
Here is the 2nd part of the trailer:

TERMINATOR IS BACK....ON TV

Wow....a Terminator tv series.
Downloading now, babes.

The tv series is directed by the company who did T3 and upcoming T4. Like other Terminator fans, we don't fancy T3. This time around the 'good' Terminator or Terminatress (is there such a word?)is a girl! Aiyo...wtf!

Anyway, we all know the Terminator story and how far can the tv series go? There will be a lot of character development and i guess there will be a lot of time travel back and forth. But i guess it's better than no show to download. It's good to kill some time on a Sunday afternoon.

There are some neat posters. Here they are:

BURGER KING - THE WHOPPER FREAKOUT

When was the last time you had a burger? And are you a regular fast-food customer? I have to confess I eat those fast-food burger all the time. Sometimes, it could be three times a week. I know it's insane and not very good for health. But what to do, when you are a bachelor and working late nights all the time and lazy to drive out and get other food. So, the phone delivery is the easiest. I order the McDonalds all the time coz there's no delivery for Burger King. I wish they have coz seriously, i prefer BK than McD. BK is a bit pricey and I do wish they revise their prices down so that everyone could enjoy their selection of tasty burgers, especially their Whopper! Well, i actually like the Mushroom burger more. But if i want to save cost, then i go for the Ramli Burger. So, what if, if you go into McD and they don't sell Big Mac no more?? I guess customers can still opt for other burgers like McChicken or Double Cheese. But what if you go into BK and they don't sell Whopper?? Ah...i guess i would freakout too. Here, let's watch the customer's reaction when they were told Whopper was discontinued from the menu.

HAMSTER INVASION

Just read in the newspaper today that pet shop owners are expecting to sell more hamster this year due to the fact that this year is the Year of The Rat. Some chinese believes it'll bring good luck. The Daily also mentioned it is suitable for children as pets. I am not sure if it is good idea to let small children to play with them. I just can't imagine what if they squash them. I mean, if i am still little child, i think i would. I reared hamster once. I bought for my ex coz she loved it and at the end of the day, i was the one rearing it. It was cute and nice at first, as it grew bigger it became a little violent. It got smarter and tried gettin out of the cage. It managed to bite and pulled up that little gate once. But still, at last it managed to escape. I guess it had it planning for mths. And no need to tell what happened when my ex found out. I would nvr rear a hamster again. It is smelly and they eat n sleep a lot. It didn't bring me luck then. So, would you buy one just bcoz it is the Year of The Rat? And did anyone bought any pigs last year?

ONE WEEK IN IKEA

Sometime ago, Ikea in Norway came up with an ingenious idea asking folks to spend a night at the store and after that, they can decide whether they would buy it or not. And now, a New Yorker gotta spend a whole week in the store! Mark Malkoff needed to vacate his apartment for fumigation and his friends small apartments were no help and staying in a hotel would be hefty. So, he contacted Ikea and in return, he would document his experience on film. What do you know. Ikea said yes and off he went. You can check his site here. Mark Lives In Ikea.

Would you stay in Ikea for a week??

Ban Plastic Bags

China is banning free plastic bags at shops and supermarkets and will charge customers should they want to use them.

This is a great step by China and even ahead of US within this policy. China use up to 3 billion plastic bags a day. Wow..that's enough to cover the road from KL up to Genting Highland. We often use plastic bags here a lot as well. The smaller and thin ones are usually used once and then discarded away. Recycling rate is the lowest. Plastic bags do not break down naturally and will pollute the environment.

The ban in China will take effect in June and will join countries such as Uganda and South Africa.
Bangladesh banned plastic bags four years ago when officials realized they blocked drains and led to flooding. Last year, San Francisco, California, became the first U.S. city to outlaw plastic checkout bags at supermarkets.

I strongly encourage people in Kl to do the same. We cannot be 'green' 100%. I mean we are not tree hugger but we can do our part by doing our bits. When i shop at 7-eleven or supermarket, usually i will reject the plastic bags because i know i will not reuse them. You can do the same too.

Maybe our government should ban the use of plastic bags too.

Reebok 2008

Today Reebok launched their 2008 products featuring 2 new state-of-the-art technologies - the SmoothFit and HexRide. And the new campaign is called "Your Move"

The press launch today was quite special. Held at SkyBar, Maya Hotel, the media were treated to some presentations before the fashion show began. After that, the media needed to change to full Reebok attire and were divided into two groups. The first group went to have some workout by Reebok's own fitness trainer and the other went for foot reflexology. All pampered maximum and the two groups switched after that.

And we walked away with this shoe. This is the HexRide rally. Just perfect as i was going to buy a new sneaker and will stick to this one for awhile.

Don't envy pls.

Peace of Mind

This is one product i am using at the moment. It's called, Peace of Mind and by Origins.

It's actually a stress reliever and i was a bit skeptical at first. Since it was given to me, why not give it a try. Yeh! It is soothing indeed. If you have stress like me (normally my stress would cover the pain at the spine area up to the neck), then this product is just right for you. It contains basil, peppermint and eucalyptus, among other ingredients and i guess that is the reason why it feels soothing when applied. After applying at the temple, neck and inhaling from your hand, it initiates a rapid relaxation response. Try it! Something i strongly recommend.

Advertlets in deep water?

Advertlets forgot to make payment for their domain name?

This news is everywhere on the blogsphere and i guess it has affected the company seriously. Many bloggers stripped off their ads in order for their blogs to work properly. And with frustrations, some jumped to other networks instead. i guess the other 3 networks are benefiting from this incident.

Although Advertlets issued an apology and also explained what were the causes, i don't think there is any excuse for something important as this. It may be an oversight but again, I am sure the company received email reminders to renew its domain name. The worse part is they have thousands of members and ad services running. Who actually forgot to make the payment? erm..the secretary? the administrator? or the owner himself?

The mistake has been made and now time will tell if Advertlets can crawl back up to the competition.

Procrastination is a disease. I know :)

Flyakite OSX

What is Flyakite OSX?

Well, i came across this in Hongkiat.com.

Halo...!...it's not asking you to fly a kite la. No fly kite. it's actually a software.
If you want your Windows PC to look like MAC OS, then this should do the trick.
It is a complete MAC transformation and it's great. At least something different to look at. I needed something new. So getting rid of XP sounds fun. Afterall, no money to buy an iMac. So, this version will do the trick.

I have no problem installing and so far, it remains stable. No crashes yet. Everything function like a MAC computer except that there isn't much change to the MSN windows live messenger.
I downloaded the Topdesk which simulates the Expose in MAC feature. It helps to reduce or switch windows in a jiffy. Here, i reduce my work to thumbnails on the screen and just click the preferred thumb to continue my work.

i use the RK launcher. The dock below the screen. It functions exactly the same as Apple MAC OS and it's cool. I changed the some of the icons as well. I changed to some reflective ones. Cool, huh.

if you want more MAC emulation stuffs.
Here is something i found. A very good resource for all MAC emulations.
http://www.osx-e.com/

I'm not a computer expert but thanks to Hongkiat, i am now happily working on my new MAC computer. yeh!
Download Flyakite here

NZX (NiuZeXui)

NiuZeXui( NZX ) 牛车水

Yes... in cantonese is called "Ngau Chair Sui".
Direct translation is - Cow Car Water
Anyway, they said is something like Singapore's Chinatown.

So, what is this all about?
Is actually a new commercial area at Ara Damansara. I will attached the map below.

When we were on our way there, i was imagining that the place was like a foodcourt or maybe a nice restaurant. Once we reached that place, we were greeted with very beautiful lights.
I don't have any camera with me, so i have to gasak from these ppl.

when you on your way to the entrance, you will see a lot of bamboo trees..etc etc
(for chinese new year)

this is how the main entrance looks like

it is surrounded by 2 1/2 storey commercial lots. And the moment you step into the entrance,
you will see Big Apple. Wow...dougnuts!! And then voila! you will see retail lots in the middle selling all kind of stuffs. All bargaining stuffs. Fashion, accessories, dvds, little cafes..etc... quite nice to walk around, actually.

And below is a very nice cafe/restaurant. Unfortunately, the food ran out when we were there.

What else? Starbucks, Secret Recipe will be there. I am sure other nice restaurants will make their way there as it is actually quite a nice place to hangout. Odd it is since the location is not easy to access. There are only 2 ways to go there. One is from the Kelana Jaya and the other is from the old Subang Airport. If you know where is the main LRT station, then you know where i am talking about.

I will probably go there again. Maybe this time i will bring my own camera. haha.
meantime, leme credit the ppl who took the photos.
you can go to their links for better picture.

Am I Back?

My last post was August last year.

wow..how time flies.

there are too much tension and stress at work that i do not find the mood to blog anything at all. Afterall, my grammar is not up to mark either. Yes, it's kinda frustrating when you have something to pen down but words just get in the way. And i am doing publishing and carrying the title, Editor-in-chief. O my god!

No...this is not a confession or unveiling a secret. Everyone knows. It may be a surprised to those who don't know me. If you don't know me and found your way into here...hey! welcome!

Sometimes, it's depressing coz when you read other blogs...oh...they sound all so nice and you always wish you could write like them. Sigh...i wish but then, there are also many who are not genius in writing and still get ppl to visit the site, agh...i am a little relieved.

So, what made me write again?
I was reading Suanie's and Pink pau's blog and it just hit me that i had not blog for the longest time. Perhaps, i am bored now or maybe, ...they inspire me to blog a little again. Or maybe one day, i am able to have my own domain to blog. that would be cool. If i could get my hands on a new digital camera, maybe...i would blog even more. I believe in visuals more.

2007 has gone. that stupid Pig year. It was supposed to be my year. It was supposed to bring me lots of luck and joy. Instead, there were more downs than ups. If you look back, generally the Pig year wasn't very good overall. A few events i could remember now....assassin of Buttho, russia wans to point its nuclear weapon at Europe, our own local chaotic demontrations and my client's mom passed away on xmas day.

I, for once would want to vote for the opposition this year. By the way, i have not register as a voter yet. I think i did. I am not sure. I think i am supposed to vote for Pantai. I am voting for Opposition not because i like them. It's bcoz i do not like our current administration. I wish our PM is as agressive as our Dr. M. Our PM now has done nothing much... i mean, in a big way to help Malaysia prosperous. We only had our toll and petrol increased. Yes,..our country is still the lowest compare to other countries but we can't use this as a benchmark, rite? My usual mixed-rice for lunch cost me at least RM4 now compare to RM3 or RM3.50 few monts back. And you don't see Pak Lah going overseas a lot with the delegation to help spur Malaysia economy. All politicians are liars and perhaps, corrupted. It's not a surprise and they are all over the world. But i am ok if we all 'prosperous' together -gether. Everyone wins, everyone will be happy. If Obama is the President of the USA, i would really love to see what are the changes he will be implementing and i am not surprised if there is an assassination plot against him. It's just like the TV series, 24 where the first black president was assassinated.

So, how did i celebrate my new year's eve? Nothing much. I had seafood with a few friends and then adjourned to my friend's house to play Xbox! Just hope 2008 would be a better year for everyone.

Before that, we went to Lookout Point after xmas. It's somewhere in cheras. Not sure how to explain to you but can go from Ampang or Steven's Corner in Cheras. It's ok la for first timers like us. We managed to find that place. We read in some other blogs earlier. Some said the food was good, some said "yuks". As we reached, we went to this Lookout Point Cafe or restaurant. I kept my expectations low on food and fair enough, it was really not good. It was raining and drizzling that night. So, it was kinda chilly. Luckily i was wearing a sweater. We went there to give one of our friend a surprise birthday party. She was brought up there later and indeed, she was delighted to see all of us there and we tried to have the bday cake eaten there. So, these guys put the candles neatly on the cake and ...fuck! the wind was too strong. They couldnt light the candles!

One guy went to survey the area and came back, saying that there was another restaurant downstairs and we should try doing that cake thingy there. So, all of us went downstairs and...haiyo...this is a better looking restaurant than upstairs!!! It's like those KimGary restaurant. You can find variety of food here and the price is surprisingly reasonable. Better than upstairs!!!! So, if you want to go there..that place is called Lookout Point. When you reached there, don't lookout or lookup...make sure you look down!

And why is it so nice there? You can view the entire KL from there and ya, it's cooler there.

Have a great 2008...!!
